Presenter: Bess Yin Hung Lam
Affiliation: Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Hong Kong
Presentation Type: Oral Presentation
Title: The effect of high-definition transcranial direct currentstimulation (HD-tDCS) on psychological functions in drug addicts: a pilot study

🔬 Presentation Highlights
Focus: Exploring the role of HD-tDCS in improving psychological functions and reducing antisocial behavior among drug addicts.
Study Aim: To evaluate whether targeted brain stimulation can positively impact drug craving and antisocial tendencies.
Methodology:
– Randomized assignment to active HD-tDCS or sham stimulation groups.
– 13-minute stimulation sessions, twice daily, over 5 days within 2 weeks.
– Targeted stimulation of the right orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) using Soterix HD-tDCS (1.5 mA).
Assessment: Psychological functions, mood, adverse effects, drug cravings, and antisocial behavior measured pre- and post-stimulation.
Key Findings: Notable improvements in several psychological functions following HD-tDCS.
Impact: Offers valuable clinical and theoretical insights for rehabilitation professionals, correctional services, and policymakers working in addiction and antisocial behavior prevention.
